How did Bodhi Global come into existence and who are the founders of Bodhi Global?

The company is co-promoted by the founding partners of AZB & Partners, one of India's leading law firms and the Patni family, a business group that has successfully built two enterprises in the technology space: Patni Computers System and PCS Technology.

AZB provides substantive oversight to the legal support services being provided by Bodhi Global. The Patni involvement brings a high-level approach to information technology systems and data/operational security, as well as client confidentiality.

Is Bodhi Global a Law Firm?

Bodhi Global is not a law firm nor is it in the business of providing legal advice to its clients. Bodhi Global provides legal support services to law firms and corporations based in the U.S., Europe, Canada and India. Bodhi Global works closely with its clients to understand their needs and then applies a rigorous training process, standardized workflow, quality checks and performance metrics to increase quality and efficiency.

What is Bodhi Global's Mission Statement?

Bodhi Global works when its clients are asleep and meets its clients' demands around the clock. What is Bodhi Global's "Global Solution"?

Like major international law firms, Bodhi Global provides legal support services when and where they are required by its clients. Bodhi Global is building a team of US lawyers from Top 20 law firms to interface with US clients and provide a seamless client experience. Bodhi Global has partnered with several international litigation support services providers in order to deliver an end-to-end solution.

What types of services does Bodhi Global provide?

Bodhi Global's services include all aspects of litigation support, contract review, drafting and management, corporate due diligence for merger and acquisitions, real estate, and legal regulatory research. Bodhi Global also services some areas within intellectual property. Bodhi Global provides two delivery models: clients can either use Bodhi Global on a project basis or have a dedicated team of attorneys assigned to them full-time.

How Does Bodhi Global Deploy Technology to Improve Its Services?

With the experience of the Patni companies, Bodhi Global is developing technology that will help its clients gain greater control over corporate transactions and litigation. Here are some examples:

  • Working with a major US law firm to develop transactional databases for real estate deals that will contain all deal documentation and allow clients to run different types of analyses and generate reports
  • Working with Washington, DC attorney to update and revise real estate treatise
  • Working with Washington, DC law firm to develop technology to improve compliance-related tasks for regulated industries

Does Bodhi Global have a conflicts system in place?

Yes. Bodhi Global maintains a comprehensive computer data base to ensure that conflict checks are done prior to accepting clients' work. We keep a list of the clients for whom our attorneys have worked, as well as a list of Bodhi Global clients. Because of our relationship with AZB & Partners, we also have AZB run a conflicts check.

What is the Bodhi Global's system of confidentiality check and balances ?

Bodhi Global is ISO 27001 certified. This is an internationally recognized standard utilized to certify the protection of data. Bodhi Global is audited by a third-party auditor on an ongoing basis so as to ensure compliance with rigorous security protocols. Bodhi Global has all the check and balances in place to provide complete physical and virtual security of its clients' data. Bodhi Global issues magnetic swipe cards to its employees, who have signed confidentiality agreements, and has installed CCTV in all secured areas.

How is an Indian lawyer trained? Is it similar to the training received in the US and UK.

Once a student has finished ten years of schooling + two years of pre-university education, he or she has two options:

  • Three years of study for a Bachelor's degree, followed by a three-year course of study for a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB); or
  • A five-year combined program for a Bachelor of Laws degree

A LL.B graduate can enroll with a State Bar Council to obtain the license to practice law as an Advocate in Indian courts. State Bar Councils are governed by the Bar Council of India. Once an advocate, a person can practice through India. In India, there are no state bar examinations, unlike the U.S.

What is Bodhi Global's recruitment process?

Bodhi Global recruits proactively based on forecasted requirements. We maintain a robust database of interested candidates and also approach candidates through campus recruitments and placement agencies. Once the applicable resumes are short-listed, the candidates are further screened via a telephonic interview, conducted by the HR department along with the Team Leader. Selected candidates from the telephonic interview are brought in for a written test and three rounds of personal interviews with HR, Operations, and AZB & Partners. The written test consists of various sections related to English, logic, analytics and law. Post the interviews, the short-listed candidates are referred to a background screening company for their background and reference check. These checks include the screening of their educational qualification, previous employment (at least last two), a police records check and regulatory and compliance database check.

How does Bodhi Global train its Indian workforce?

Each employee undergoes a month-long rigorous induction program. The program covers soft skills, computer skills, legal writing, introduction to the U.S. and U.K. legal systems, litigation document review, legal research, case summaries, lease abstraction, agreement drafting, and training on quality theory and client processes.

What are Bodhi Global's Project Management Protocols?

Bodhi Global assigns a Project Manager in the US/UK and India for each job. The US/UK Project Manager is responsible for first-line communication with the US/UK client and for overseeing any work delivered in the US/UK. The India Project Manager is responsible for implementing the client's directions and overseeing any work performed by the attorney team in India. The Project Managers are responsible for performing ongoing quality checks of the work to assure that mistakes are caught and questions are raised and answered quickly, thus increasing efficiency and cost savings over the course of the project.

What are the Bodhi Global's expectations from its clients?

Bodhi Global expects that its clients will provide the necessary training for our team to complete the project, share information as the project continues, answer questions as they arise and provide necessary feedback about whether the team is meeting the client's needs.

What is a pilot project and why it is necessary?

We believe that a pilot project is a critical component of any large project. During the "pilot phase," we work closely with the client to determine whether the team understands the parameters of the project and has the necessary training to take the project forward. We also use the pilot to create and implement protocols and processes that will take us through the project to completion. During the pilot, we can also identify team members who are both exceptionally qualified (and thus will rise to a team leader position) and in need of further training.

How Does Bodhi Global Bill Clients for Its Work?

Bodhi Global adopts a flexible approach to billing and will work with its clients to establish a billing regime that makes most sense for the project.

Why did Bodhi Global choose Pune for its office location and delivery centre?

In 2006 Bodhi Global started a small office in Mumbai. However to give effect to its expansion program, it chose to shift its main delivery centre to Pune. Pune was the best choice in terms of quality and cost of real estate, availability of talent pool and its proximity to Mumbai. The Pune facility can seat up to 300 lawyers. Two of the Top 10 law schools in India are in Pune.
